Refrigerated and frozen food storage cabinets
In a refrigerated storage cabinet the heating cable is mounted in the door, close to the pane, in order to prevent that damp is formed on the panes, when the door is being opened and closed. In a frozen food storage cabinet, the heating cable is fitted into the door frame to prevent that the rubber seals on the door freeze to the frame.
Cold room doors
Cold room door seals tend to freeze to the door frames, making it impossible to open the door. In order to avoid this problem, a heating cable is fitted into a groove in the frame facing the seal.
Cold room floors
Two problems might arise: Despite proper floor insulation, the big temperature differences may cause the concrete slab, in contact with the ground, to reach subzero temperatures. The water in the ground will freeze and force the ground to rise , causing stuctural damages to the cold room floor. To prevent the ground from freezing, heating cables are installed in the concrete under the insulation.
At the entrance of the cold room, warm air and cold air meet, when the door is opened. The condensation generated will freeze and create ice on the floor.As the ice might cause accidents,a heating cable is installed in the concrete above the insulation in the area near the door.
Evaporators
After a certain time of operation, the cooling circuit of the evaporator must be de-iced. The corresponding water is collected at the base of the evaporator and removed through a drain pipe. As the beginning of the pipe may be located several metres inside the cold room, it is necessary to put a heating cable inside the pipe to make sure that the water does not freeze.
Refrigerant compressors
A heating tape around the refrigerant compressor prevents the coolant from being
absorbed by the lubricating oil.

Refrigerated vehicles
Refrigerated vehicles are equipped with an evaporator, which faces the same problems as described above under the heading Evaporators. The drain pipe is therefore heated by a heating cable. Further the seals of the cold room doors will sometimes require the installation of heating cables, in order to make it possible to open the doors.
